Washing alpaca yarn

Useful tips for washing Alpaca yarn

TREATMENT for hand-knitted yarns

If you want your Alpaca jumper to always remain soft and fluffy, follow these tips:

● Soak in lukewarm water with shampoo or hair conditioner (use very little), adding a little white wine vinegar for highlights or bright colours.

● Leave it to soak for a short time, ten to fifteen minutes at most.

● Do not rub it and handle it gently.

● Rinse it patiently several times with plenty of lukewarm water until the water is perfectly clear.

● Do not wring it out, but remove the water by applying light pressure.

● Wrap the jumper in a towel to remove excess water.

● Lay it flat on a horizontal surface, taking care to avoid direct exposure to the sun.

● Let it air dry at room temperature, never near heat sources.

● Iron it with a strong jet of steam without resting the iron on the garment.

TREATMENT AND FINISHING for processed (industrial) yarns:

Dry clean with appropriate solvent.

Wash in water at 30° with a bath ratio of 20:1 (water:material) with 1-2% fabric softener by weight of the material.

Iron with a steam press. In the case of striped knitwear, only dry cleaning is essential.

To check for any shrinkage during treatment, washing, or ironing, it is advisable to carry out some tests beforehand to verify the conformity of the sizes.

It is always advisable to make a test swatch and wash it before proceeding with the work, both for machine and hand knitting.

All our yarns are in stock untreated/unwashed, and appear raw, so it is essential to make a small sample and wash it following our advice before proceeding with the final work. Check the first stitches and in case of irregularities, stop working immediately and contact our technical department.
